Yes, stone effectively transfers and retains heat. There are two types of underfloor heating. The wire system adds only 3mm to the overall floor level and tiles can be laid directly over the mat .

The water piped system must be embedded in a minimum screed of 65mm and this needs to dry out for at least 3 weeks. Prior to tiling, the floor should have been heated gradually over 3 days to 25º C and then turned off before tiling.

After tiling the heating should be left off for at least 21 days before gradually bringing it up to its operating temperature by a degree a day.
